International Shoe Dye Mixing Black is needed when darkening any of the International Fabric Shoe Dyes, to create deep, jewel-tone colors such as forest green, navy blue, and burgundy.

Mixing the perfect color take some experimentation. Follow these tips for mixing your dye color:

  • Separate your base color into a separate dish for mixing. Be sure to mix enough dye in your final color to cover your pair of shoes.
  • Always add the Mixing Back little-by-little into your base color, testing on the fabric swatch included with your shoes as you go.
  • Allow your fabric test swatch to dry completely, to determine the final color.
  • View your color under artificial and natural light before making a decision.
  • Shoes that have been dyed can be dyed again with a darker hue, if you decide the final outcome is too light.
  • If this scares you to death, try our Extended Color Palette dyes, and leave the hard work to us.

1 oz. / 29.5 ml

1. Test the color on a swatch of the same fabric. If your color needs adjustment, mix with International Universal Lightener or International Mixing Black until you achieve the desired result. Do not mix with water.

2. Clean any marks, cement, or stains from both of your shoes. Remove laces, ribbons, etc.

3. Apply the dye. Follow these steps for the best results:

  • Apply dye with a dauber or soft paintbrush.
  • Begin applying the dye at the back seam. Try not to overlap onto the other side of the seam or heel. Begin 1/8" away from the seam, and allow the dye to seep into it. Move smoothly from the backseam to the toe, using quick, even strokes, then around the opposite side of the shoe to the back seam again. Re-dip your brush as needed. Blend as you go, to avoid dark circles from forming.
  • Dye the high heel last, avoiding contact with the rest of the shoe.

4. Allow the shoe to air dry, keeping any objects from touching the fabric. Do not rinse.

5. If you do not plan to dye the shoes again, spray with Scotch Guard or a fabric protector, to protect your shoes from water spotting.
